Learn How You can Improve / Influence Your Family's Eating Habits

WHAT :
  • A 1.5 hour workshop to empower people who wish to improve/influence the eating habits of their families and loved ones for better health. The trainer, Dr Chan Tat Hon will share his experience in training people to be influencers and advocates for healthy lifestyle and healthy eating. 
  • Dr Chan will also share possible approaches, strategies and practical tips that one can adopt in their endeavours to encourage and jumpstart healthier eating habits amongst their families and loved ones. 
​WHY :
Eating is not just a national pastime of Singaporeans but is possibly the focus and centre of life in most Singaporean families. Whether it is the regular daily family time, weekend family outings, special family celebrations of family overseas holidays, food and eating out forms a very big part in the lives of most families. A family that lives together, eats together and would also therefore often end up having the same eating habits and ultimately the same health outcomes or challenges. Most people know and agree that eating habits has a huge impact on a person's risk of chronic lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and weight problems, stroke and cardiovascular diseases but very few would consciously act on improving their dietary habits until the chronic conditions catches up on them. Quite often, within each family eating unhealthily, there would be a person who would be the first to be 'awaken' to the need to improve the dietary habits of the family for the sake of the health destinies for the entire family, but this person is often in the minority in the beginning and would struggle in their efforts to influence their family and loved ones to start eating healthier.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Chan Tat Hon, the Medical Director and Principal Trainer of Engines of Health as well as the Founder and Chef at The Bento People, a restaurant that endeavours to be a living classroom for people to explore and experience healthier eating options.  

About what inspired him to do this workshop, Dr Chan says, 'Many patients that I see in my medical clinic for lifestyle and dietary habits training and coaching often tell me that their number one challenge in dietary change is the resistance and lack of support from their family. Many customers that I serve at my restaurant are often people who are bringing their family members, especially their spouses, to encourage them to eat healthier. I hope this workshop would help people who are exasperated and struggling in their efforts to influence their family to eat healthy, by the practical tips that I would share from by experience in training people to be influencers/advocates of healthy living.'

GOAL :  
​ Participants should leave the workshop 
  • with new knowledge and hence avoid some of the common mistakes and pitfalls to avoid in their efforts to influence the eating habits of their family.
  • empowered with practical tips and renewed motivation to continue their efforts to try to improve and influence their family and loved ones to eat healthier..

  • Anyone who is trying to improve and influence their loved ones to eat healthier.
  • Everyone who is interested in Eating Better for Health
What will NOT be covered :
  • Recipes 
  • Cooking techniques instructions

Dr Chan is the principal trainer at Engines of Health conducting healthy lifestyle programmes for the community, hospitals and organisations, he runs his own medical clinic and is also a owner-chef of a restaurant which he uses as a living classroom to promote healthy eating habits. Dr Chan is a passionate advocate of lifestyle as medicine and is often invited to speak at events, seminars and conferences on the power of lifestyle and dietary habits in combating lifestyle-related diseases
